Insanity Asylum Review, so far

Insanity The Asylum

Insanity The Asylum

I have a whole new respect for athletes on professional sports teams. Just when I thought it was OK to complain that they are overpaid, I get a dose of their training regimen. Enter, the asylum. Insanity Asylum.
Many of us have been anticipating the release of Asylum for quite some time now. It’s a follow-up program of the original Insanity, which is the hardest workout program I have ever done.

Two weeks ago Asylum arrived at my door.  Shaun T signed my copy as I won it because of my success as a Team Beachbody Coach. Three of us have decided to do the workouts so we needed to get a few extra pieces of equipment (2 more agility ladders and an extra speed jump rope) and make use of our clubhouse for space.

I’ve posted videos of my first week below. Here’s my Insanity Asylum review so far!

Asylum is a sports performance based workout and helps you improve your over all athletic performance as opposed to the endurance performance in Insanity.
I started with Speed and Agility and instantly discovered that there’s a lot of work to be done! Very creative moves intermixed with the speed rope and agility ladder had me questioning my coordination constantly. Still, the challenge is there and it really is fun working to improve. You use the agility ladder like crazy and the in and out ab progressions along with moving pushups has one begging for mercy! The bear crawl is a beast! The warmup is a workout in itself! As a matter of fact, all of the warmups in Insanity Asylum are killer.

We love the Strength workout where you hold dumbbells and do plyometric moves. That workout really torches my legs and glutes. The Back to Core workout puts a spin on your typical core workout. All of the moves are focused on the back even though your whole body is engaged. I know my shoulders and arms felt it as well as my legs.

Vertical Plyo has been the toughest so far for me. The agility ladder is used here again and you add in stretchy bands on your arms and legs doing plyo pushups, x jumps, moving pushups, long jumps, one legged jump knee tucks and more. Just when you’re hoping to get a drink of water or grab a breath of air, Shaun has you doing the speed rope as a recovery.

All of these workouts are kicking our butts and we have to break often. Some workouts have even gotten tougher the second time around.

On the nutrition front, we are eating many of the recipes in the eating plan (we love avocados!), which is easy to follow! The other items working for us is Recovery Formula and Shakeology.

I love the fact that this is a 30 day program as our bodies are screaming right now. Inside the box is also a plan where you can do a hybrid of P90X and Asylum or Insanity and Asylum. How slick is that?

Here’s to going thru the training of being an athlete!

Had I not pushed play back in April 2003 with Power 90, I would have never tried P90X. Pushing play had led to an abundance of health, fitness, life, finances and more! Check out my Power Blast Podcast Episode 210 here.

My wife is in love with Brett Hoebel, and I’m OK with that!

summit2010-6

Many of you husbands out there would be outraged if your wife was in love with another man. However, I am just fine with my wife, Hillary, being in love with the creator of the phenomenal workout program called Rev Abs. She sees him almost every day as she puts in the DVD and pushes play.

This is a 90 Day program using something called “Abcentrics.” It’s a training technique that works your abs from 6 different angles. The workouts are fun, challenging and get results. You are constantly firing your abs by engaging your abdominal muscles during every rep of every exercise. I guess that’s why results come so fast! Of course nutrition plays a big part of it too, so that’s why many see results in 90 Days. Good thing there’s an eating plan included with the program.

It’s fun to watch Hillary challenge herself with the moves. She is currently doing the advanced version of this program called Full Throttle. I have not tried them myself, but I can understand why the pause button gets pushed from time to time!

My experience with Rev abs was interesting. Since I have been working out for years, I thought the beginning workouts of Rev Abs would be too easy.  I was quickly humbled by the feedback from my core muscles! I did go thru the first phase or the program at a faster pace than what was outlined, and jumped right into the second phase. Loved it. After I finished, I was actually able to complete Ab Ripper X (from P90X) from start to finish and wanted more! Now that’s saying something!!

One highlight that Hillary and I have in our memory book is the fact that we got to workout live with Brett at a Beachbody event in May of 2010. The passion Brett has for helping people get healthy and fit emanated as he described the moves, their reason and how they were created. For me, I was just happy to have been familiar with the moves well enough so I could lunge low as Brett did one of his famed Brazilian swing kicks over my head.

If you’re looking for a fun, challenging and results-focused workout program, Rev Abs may be right up your alley. This is one effective trainer that gets results. Get it Here.

We instantly recognized his Brett’s silhouette on the TV show called The Biggest Loser, so we are pretty confident he will be helping those amazing contestant get amazing results like us!

Rev It High, Rev It Low. We’re Strong, Committed, and Ready To Go!

90 Day Workout Hybrid

broncokick

One of the great things about doing a workout programs that have a lot of variety is the fact that you can mix and match them to create your own hybrid fitness programs. That takes the cost of these programs even lower (goodbye gym membership!) and makes the body work harder. All this while having fun and challenging yourself within the comfort of your own home!

This 90 plan was shared by my friend and fellow coach, David Newman of Florida. He’s been interacting on the Team Beachbody message boards and discovered a few hybrids to try. He spun this version to make it his own using a combo of Rev Abs, P90X, P90X Plus, One On One with Tony Horton and Insanity.

I plan on giving this a whirl for sure. Wow! I love it. If you need any of the program above to accomplish this hybrid, you can shop here and get the authentic Beachbody fitness programs in their entirety.

Insanity

Insanity was the the hardest workout program I have ever done. Your personal trainer, Shaun T,  pushes you past your limits with 10 workout discs packed with plyometric drills on top of nonstop intervals of strength, power, resistance, and ab and core training moves. No equipment or weights needed. Just the will to get the hardest body you’ve ever had.

Get INSANE results!

The secret to these mind-blowing results is something called Max Interval Training where Shaun T took traditional interval training and flipped it on its head—you perform long bursts of maximum-intensity exercises with short periods of rest. Each workout keeps you constantly challenged as you alternate between aerobic and anaerobic intervals performed at your MAX. The result: burn up to 1,000 calories in an hour and get the most insane body in 60 days. I thought I might spontaneously combust!

One Year From Now – A Totally New Body

Often when I was in my 20s and 30s and getting fatter and fatter I had had visions of going away to a fat camp or fitness camp or some sort of retreat where I could live for a year and work hard to totally transform my body and my health. I often pictured the scene as people would barely recognize me and would ask lots of questions or statements like, “What’s your secret?” “What Have you been doing” or “Man, you look awesome!”

Well, I never made it to that get away and years passed without any progress in the health arena. Guess what! I kept growing bigger and feeling weak, tired, lethargic, and crumpy. Yep. Me…Grumpy. I was edgy a lot of the time.

Well, as you know I discovered that infomercial that changed my life and didn’t need to get away to change my body, health or life. Now I feel energized, happy and look pretty darn fit!
